Our target Beta Launch is the end of January now. We’re moving on slowly, but surely.

Thanks for everyone’s patience.

Major Boost

Hello Everyone,

The Opticus Team has been growing, and now we’re finally working on rolling out our Beta version. It could be 2008 though before our new system is FINALLY released. For those of you who have been followingthis project, your patience will win out with time. The Opticus system has had so many rewrites to the methodology, that we’ve gone back to the boards several times. I think we’ve finally got a good team together, and the website with some sneak previews will be released soon. Stay tuned . . .

More delays . . .

So this is a short note to let everyone know that the project is still very much alive, but seriously delayed. We have a list of Beta testers now, but will be unable to get them accounts for probably another month and a half. The core of our team has been waylayed in their primary jobs, which means they’ve had less time to give to the development of the program. Their primary projects should be ending around May 10th, so we’re predicting that the Beta version will roll out somewhere around the third week of may.

In the mean time, here’s some stuff to think about. There have been many people, especially recently, discussing the need for an AJAX webmail solution that can do what GMail does, but is an open source program that they can load onto their own servers. Opticus is going to fill that need. Our goal is to have emails listed as conversations, the ability to access and organize your other email accounts, and to have fast operating speeds on both mobile phones and normal webbrowsers. While our Mobile version of Opticus hasn’t even been begun, it’s on the drawing boards. Essentially our project should revolutionize how people think of webmail, in a programming sort of way.

Expect great things . . .

Opticus Release

Hello Eveyone!

Thanks for following the project. We’re getting very close to launching Opticus2007 on our trial webserver and are wondering if we could build a client-base of test users who are willing to use our webmail system and give us some feedback. We’re looking at actually launching a gamma (pre beta) version in the next month or so and would like to go ahead and get some test users set up. If you’re interested, please email our team leader at william@ippimail.com .

The target release date for releasing the beta version code is still March 1st, 2007. At this point, depending upon how the trials go, it could take slightly longer than that. We’ll be keeping you updated.

Thanks,

Opticus 2007 Team

Opticus . . .

We’ve gotten a lot of response to this project, and although the new year is here, we’re still not quite ready to release our beta version. Like many projects in IT, technical difficulties occur, and we’ve had our fair share. Two months ago a contractor cut a line to our server in Chicago and our entire network was pulled off of the net. We’ve since repaired the problem, and finally have our servers backup and running. Now we can get back to our development. New Target date for release is March 1st.

Addtionally, to answer some questions about whether this is a “bolt-on” to Ippimail . . . Opticus is not affiliated with Ippimail other than we support Ippimail. Perhaps once our webmail system is released, Ippimail may consider switching to it, but we shall see. For now we are related to Ippimail only in the sense that we are fellow open-source projects seeking to change the world by our ideals and good programming . . .

Keep the feedback coming, and all of your support is greatly appreciated.

Opticus Coming in 2007 . . .

I know we’ve been making a bunch of promises, but the details for Opticus ARE coming. We’ve been delayed with some server and network difficulties.

Release date has now been pushed back to Dec 31st. The New Year will herald a release of Opticus.
